Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League allegedly assaulted a teacher of Bangla department at Government Shaheed Bulbul College in Pabna for taking action against two female examinees for copying during Higher Secondary Certificate examinations on May 12.
The victim Md Masudur Rahman, lecturer of Bangle department at the college, could not go to college for past four days due to the continuous threat of Chhatra League activists.
Masudur said he came under attack on May 12 while returning home from the examination centre.
‘On May 6, some examinees at examination centre were copying. So, I took away books from two the students. And since then some of the students have been spreading propaganda against me,’ he said.
Chhatra League brought an allegation of sexual harassment against him in examination centre to divert the incident, he said.
The college unit Chhatra League president Samsuddin Junnun said, ‘The accused teacher Masudur Rahman harassed a HSC examinee in his examination center on May 6. The victim filed a complaint with the college authority, which is now under investigation.’
Being angry with the teacher, somebody attacked him and Chhatra League was not involved with it, said Junnun, adding that he went there to save the teacher.
Video footage of the attack went viral on facebook triggering agitation among teachers and students.
Asked about the attack on college teacher, Pabna Sadar police station officer-in-charge Obaidul Haque said no one lodged any compliant about this with the police.
No version from the college authority including its principal Abdul Quddus was available as they refused to make any comment on record.
