Newly elected general secretary of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation AKM Mominul Haque Shaeed on Saturday took charge and exchanged his views with other office bearers of the executive committee for the development of country’s hockey.
Earlier on April 29, BHF got its much awaited executive committee when Mohammedan Sporting Club councilor Shaeed was elected as the general secretary of the federation after defeating Abdus Sadeque in the much-hyped election.
The new executive committee had been waiting to formally take charge since the publication of the gadget of the 28-member executive committee with portfolio by National Sports Council on May 6.
Among the elected 28 members, 23 officials including federation president Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat were present during the meeting.
‘Today we have discussed our future plans and exchanged views for a time-bound action plan,’ said Shaeed after the meeting at his office.
The secretary highlighted the plans on local and international hockey tournaments and training facilities for the players.
The committee is set to hold its Annual General Meeting after Eid-ul-fitr in June and host an invitational international tournament and Divisional level tournament to mark the country’s founding president, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary in 2020.
Shaeed hoped that all the officials will work together for the development of hockey, forgetting what their panel in the election was.
The federation expressed its plans to introduce indoor hockey and run a camp, hiring an Iranian coach at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan or at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium in July.
Besides, they have plans to arrange a franchise-based league with local teams, a women’s league at divisional level and run the school hockey tournament across the country with more than 100 teams to bring out budding talents.
The players’ transfer window for second division league will complete within May and the league is expected to start in June, informed Shaeed.
Federation president Serniabat believed that hockey will flourish under the guidance of new committee and urged all to perform their respective duties sincerely.
‘From now on, a new era begins in Bangladesh hockey. I believe hockey will thrive under the new committee,’ said BHF president after formally handing over the charge to the new general secretary.
