A police constable, missing since Saturday’s clash with fishermen in the river Meghna, was found dead on Sunday morning.

Mosharraf Hossain’s body was recovered from the river in Hizla upazila.

The 32-year-old was posted at Haimchar police station. Mosharraf Hossain hailed from Chattogram’s Sitakunda upazila.

‘Local fishermen spotted the body at around 11:30am and contacted us,’ said SK Mohsin Alam, officer-in-charge of Haimchar police station.

Mosharraf was part of a police team going to the other side of the river to arrest a suspect on early Saturday. But fishermen, who were fishing defying a ban, thought police were coming for them.

They attacked the engine-run boat with bamboo poles and brick chips. Mosharraf fell in the river and had been missing since then.
