The Communist Party of Bangladesh held wayside protest rallies in the capital Wednesday demanding justice for Nusrat and prevention of crimes against women and girls.
At Feni, lawyers and medicine shop owners held seprate demonstrations demanding justice for Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
The Left Democratic Alliance announced that it would hold road march from the capital to Sonagazi, Feni on May 2 demanding justice for Nusrat and prevention of crimes against women and girls.
CPB’s Dhaka committee held protest rallies at Shantinagar, Malibagh, Shahjahanpur, Khilhaon, Mugda, Rampura and Kuril demanding exemplary punishment for Nusrat’s murderers and prevention of all sorts of crimes against women and girls.
The rallies were organized by CPB under its ‘Week of Resistance Against Sex Offences and Violence Against Women and Girls’ beginning last Saturday.
CPB leaders said at the rallies, in last 100 days raping and murder of women and girls increased due to declining social values and the pervasive culture of impunity.
They urged the people to build resistance against injustice.
CPB leaders demanded highest punishment for Nusrat’s murderers.
They demanded immediate arrest and legal action against former officer-in-charge of Sonagazi police station Muazzem Hossain for his acts of omission and commission since Nusrat was harassed sexually by madrassah principal and serial sex offender Siraj.
In a statement CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim and general secretary Mohammad Shah Alam urged the party leaders, activists and well wishers in the capital, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Cumilla, Feni, Noakhali, Chandpur, Lakshmipur and Chattogram to make Dhaka-Sonagazi road march successful.
