Independence Award-winning actor Saleh Ahmed passed away at Apollo Hospital on Wednesday noon.
The actor breathed his last at around 2:30pm. He was 83.
Saleh Ahmed suffered stroke eight years ago. But, his physical condition deteriorated in the last few months. He was admitted to the hospital last week for lungs infection and other old-age complications, said Sabbir Ahmed, son of the actor.
Earlier, the prime minister Sheikh Hasina gave Tk 25 lakh in donation for the treatment of the ailing actor.
Born in Sariakandi, Bogura, Ahmed started his acting career in theatre.
He also acted in a few teleplays before the liberation war. In 1991, he resumed his acting career through a Humayun Ahmed teleplay.
He has acted in many fan-favourite teleplays including Ayomoy, Aj Rabibar, Ure Jay Bakopakkhi and films like Aguner Parashmoni, Shraban Megher Din.
