Election Commission starts updating the electoral roll today.
The drive will begin with door-to-door data collection across the country, EC secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed told New Age.
According to the EC officials, chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda will inaugurate the enrolment programme at Rajbari deputy commissioner’s office at 11:00am.
On the other side, election commissioner M Rafiqul Islam will participate in the opening programme in Chittagong, election commissioner Kabita Khanom in Sylhet, commissioner Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury in Savar, EC secretary in Rajshahi, EC additional secretary Mokhlesur Rahman in Rangpur and its National Identity Card wing director Saidul Islam will take part in Cumilla.
Any citizen who was born on or before January 1, 2001 is eligible to get enlisted as a voter as the update will continue till May 13.
Data of the citizens who was born on or before January 1, 2002, 2003 and 2004 would be collected and they would gradually be included in the electoral roll after reaching 18, the officials said.
People, who have changed their location before the process, will have to fill in a specific form provided by the commission with their new addresses.
They will also have to submit necessary documents to respective upazila and thana election offices to this end.
According to the EC, there are around 10.42 crore voters in the country.
People, who have already enrolled in the voter list but are yet to get their national ID cards, are requested not to get registered again, officers added.
