BU students’ protest resumes after Pahela Baishakh break

Barishal University students’ protest resumed on Monday after one-day break of Pahela Baishakh celebration demanding removal of the university’s vice-chancellor.
The protesters staged a sit-in in front of the academic building of the university from 10:00am to 1:00pm and said that they would continue their agitation programme until removal of VC Professor SM Imamul Haque.
Meanwhile, Abu Zafar Mia, secretary of BU Teachers Association, said that they staged a sit-in and observed strike in front of the academic building from 11:00am to 1:00pm to press home their 8-point demands for ending service irregularities.
The association also expressed solidarity with the ongoing student movement for removal of the
VC.
The teachers appealed to the president, also chancellor of the university, prime minister, education minister for taking immediate steps for ending deadlock to avoid session jam.
The students started agitation on March 27 after the VC branded the students as offspring of razakar at a programme of debating society marking Independence Day on March 26.
On March 29, the VC expressed regret about his comment but that was rejected by the
students.
