Renowned and young artists will paint a large alpana on the streets of Manik Mia Avenue marking the upcoming Pahela Baishakh.
The alpana (street or floor painting) will be drawn on an area of 3,00,000 square feet on the streets of Manik Mia Avenue, said organisers of the project named ‘Berger Alponay Baishakh 1426’ at a press conference held on Tuesday at a restaurant in the capital.
Initiated by Asiatic Experiential Marketing Ltd (Asiatic EXP), in association with Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd, the alpana featuring folk motifs will also be painted on important streets in four other cities- Chattogram, Bogura, Sylhet and Khulna.
‘Continuing the tradition of the previous years in Dhaka, the alpana will be drawn on the streets of Manik Mia Avenue. In the rest of the four cities, the sizes of the Alpana will span between 40,000 to 60,000 square feet,’ said Iresh Zaker, managing director of Asiatic EXP.
The painting in all five cities will be initiated at 11.00 pm on April 13 (the last day of the Bengali year 1425) and will continue till the early hours of Pahela Baishakh (the first day of 1426).
Renowned artists Mohammad Moniruzzaman along with Sheikh Moniruzzaman Liton will be conducting the painting at Manik Mia Avenue.
Speaker of the National Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Atiqul Islam and former cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor are scheduled to inaugurate the event at Manik Mia Avenue.
