Fazle Fahim announces panel for FBCCI polls

The incumbent senior vice-president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Sheikh Fazle Fahim, on Sunday unveiled a panel and announced his candidature for the post of president for the biennial elections to the country’s apex trade body scheduled to be held on April 27.
At an event held at International Convention City, Basundhara in the capital, Fahim announced the names of the candidates to the FBCCI elections for the 2019-21 term under the panel ‘Shommilito Babosayee Parishad’.
Fahim is son of ruling Awamil League lawmaker Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and nephew of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
He is representing Gopalganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry to FBCCI and as per the rules the president of FBCCI would be elected from chamber group this year.
Although 42 directors (21 from association group and 21 from chamber group) would be elected in the polls, the panel leader primarily announced the names of 46 candidates.
Panel members led by Sheikh Fazle Fahim from chamber’s group are Hasina Newaaz, Md Masudur Rahman Milon, Azizul Hoque, Dilip Kumar Agarwala, Masud Parvez Khan, Mohammad Anwar Sadat Sarker, Md Rezaul Karim Reznu, Gazi Golam Ashria, Tabarukul Tosaddek Hossain Khan Tito, Md Kohinoor Islam, Prabir Kumar Saha, Mohd Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan, Mohammad Bazlur Rahman, Mohammed Riyadh Ali, Md Hasanuzzaman, Humayun Rashid Khan Pathan, AH Ahmed Jamal, Sharita Millat and Sujib Ranjan Dash. The names of three more members of the panel from chambers group will be announced later.
The panel members from association group are Md Muntakim Ashraf, Khandaker Ruhul Amin, Abu Motaleb, Mir Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Md Shafiqul Islam Vorosha, Shomi Kaiser, Rashadul Hossain Chowdhury, Md Habib Ullah Dawn, Shafquat Haider, Helena Jahangir, Amzad Hussain, Nizamuddin Rajesh, SM Jahangir Hossain, Md Abul Ayes Khan, Md Abu Naser, Khondokar Moinur Rahman, Hafez Harun, Abdul Haque, Mehedi Ali, Md Munir Hossain and Kazi Showeb Rashid.
The names of two more members from association group will be announced later.
Fahim also leading the members of association group as the panel leader.
‘We have collectively decided to cooperate with the panel led by Sheikh Fazle Fahim so that the panel can be elected in this session. We hope that we will be able to provide support to this panel without any obstruction in future,’ prime minister’s private industrial and investment adviser Salman F Rahman said in the event.
He said that the government was working towards creating a good and supportive environment for traders and hopefully the ease of doing business ranking for Bangladesh would be double digit in next year.
FBCCI’s incumbent president Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, Dhaka North City Corporation mayor and former BGMEA president Atiqul Islam, and former FBCCI presidents Chowdhury Tanvir Ahmed Siddiqui, MA Sattar, MA Kashem, Mahbubur Rahman, Yusuf Abdullah Harun, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Nasir Hossain, AK Azad, Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed and Abdul Matlub Ahmed were also present, among others, at the event.
