The Rapid Action Battalion director general Benazir Ahmed on Saturday said that drive against chemical storage in Old Town of Dhaka would continue.
‘Drives against illegal storage of chemicals in Old Town will continue. We assure the businesspersons that they will not be affected unlawfully during the drive,’ he also said.
He was exchanging views with the Old Town residents on shifting chemical warehouses to a safer place at Kara Convention Centre at Bakshibazar.
The businesspersons were not the opponents of law enforcers and it was possible to free the Old Town from chemicals with collective efforts of all concerned, he said.
Chemical warehouses were now being relocated to safer places in line with the government order, he said.
He said, ‘Although businesspersons have demanded two years to shift the chemical storehouses but we want to solve the matter within two months.’
Benazir said that they had learnt that the businesspersons were storing chemicals in different parts of the capital.
He sounded a note of warning that stern action would be taken against such attempts.
Benazir also requested the businesspersons to store chemicals in a safer way to avoid incidents like the Churihatta fire.
