The government on Thursday petitioned the Appellate Division to stay High Court bail granted to Noakhali’s Subarnachar upazila Awami League leader Ruhul Amin in a case filed for raping a 35-year woman for voting for ‘sheaf of paddy’ in the December 30 general election.
On March 18, High Court bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman granted Ruhul Amin’s interim bail for one year.
Deputy attorney general Biswojit Roy told New Age that the government appealed against the bail immediately after knowing it on Thursday.
The application is likely to be heard by the vacation judge Hasan Foez Siddique on March 25, he said.
