A two-day music festival kicked off on Wednesday at Jagannath University (JnU) featuring performances by students and teachers of music department of the university and invited local, Indian and German artistes.
Music department of the university has organised the festival for the third consecutive year.
Jagannath University vice-chancellor professor Mijanur Rahman inaugurated the festival on Wednesday morning, while music department chairman and renowned Tagore singer Anima Roy chaired the inaugural ceremony.
Eminent bhawaiya singer Rathindranath Roy, Nazrul singers Khairul Anam Shakil and Ferdous Ara, Tagore singer Aditi Mohsin and German singer Jiman Karspel performed on the opening day of the festival.
Students of music department captivated the audience with a show of Tagore’s dance drama Chitranganda. Renowned dancer-choreographer Warda Rihab directed the dance drama, while Anima Roy directed music for the drama.
The concluding day of the festival will feature music show and a seminar today. Renowned local singers Rezwana Choudhury Banna, Subir Nandi, Kiron Chandra Roy and Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Indian singers Rajrupa Chowdhury, Swagata Mukharjee and Bittu Nittagusthi are scheduled to perform today.
A seminar will also be held today where professor Ashit Roy from Rajshahi University will present the key note speech.
