Information minister Hasan Mahmud has said that Dhaka University Central Students Union elections were held in a free and fair manner on March 11.
He said that students who boycotted the elections would not be elected to different posts, including the post of vice-president of the union, if the elections were manipulated.
The information minister made the comments while addressing the 50th anniversary celebration programme of the chemistry department of Chittagong University on its campus on Thursday. The minister said that there was no alternative of student politics for creating future leaders.
‘It would be difficult for me to come to this position if I was not related to politic from student life,’ he added.
He also expressed his hope that Chittagong University Central Students Union elections would be held soon.
Hasan Mahmud also encouraged students to study science and conduct original researches as the standard of a university depends on the standard of the research works conducted by its students.
He also requested the university authorities to be concerned about preserving the natural environment and scenic beauty of the campus.
CU vice-chancellor Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury inaugurated the two-day celebration programme in the morning.
The programmes will include a roundtable discussion, cultural function, raffle draw and concert.
