Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s vice-chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu on Thursday urged the Dhaka University authorities to respond to a call from students and their organisations to hold re-election to Dhaka University Central Students Union.
He also said that former student leaders, if necessary, would march towards the university to extend their support for the demand raised by the students following a controversial election in the university.
Many student organisations continue demonstration on the campus demanding fresh election to DUCSU after the election was marred by widespread rigging on March 11.
Bangladesh Chhatra League won all the posts, except two, in the DUCSU election held after about 28 years.
Shamsuzzaman, also former president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, said these while addressing a discussion at the National Press Club organised by Jatiyatabadi Nabin Dal demanding release of BNP’s imprisoned chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Presided over by Nabin Dal president Humayun Ahmed, the discussion was also addressed by BNP leaders Abdus Salam, Habibur Rahman Habib and Syed Emran Saleh Prince.
