Both Bangladesh men’s Under-20 and women’s Under-19 teams stormed into the semi-finals of the seven-nation Islami Bank International Hockey Federation Tournament in Dhaka on Tuesday.
In the men’s group, Bangladesh finished as Group B runners-up to advance to the semis with a thumping 46-17 win over Sri Lanka.
India cruised into the last four with a 51-13 goal win over the Maldives while Nepal prevailed over the Maldives by 32-21 goals in another match.
In the other match, Pakistan outplayed Afghanistan 44-20. In the first match of the women’s category, Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by 34-7 goals.
Pakistan snatched a cliffhanger in the last minute to beat Nepal by 21-20 in the second match to reach the semi-finals.
Nepalese girls were leading 20-19 till the death but Pakistan scored two goals in the last minute to seal a nail biting win.
