The five-day long 54th Bishwa Ijtema ended with the Akheri Munajat or concluding prayers offered by the followers of Indian Islamic preacher Mawlana Muhammad Saad Al Kandhalvi on the banks of the River Turag in Tongi on Tuesday morning.
Indian Mawlana Shamim Ahmed conducted the second phase Akheri Munajat from 11:45am to about 12:00 noon.
Indian Mawlana Iqbal Hafiz conducted the Hedayati Bayan or sermon translated into Bangla by Mawlana Syed Osama Islam after Fazr prayers.
The second phase of the Bishwa Ijtema attended by the followers of Maulana Muhammad Saad Al Kandhalvi started on Sunday and was extended by another day as heavy rain disrupted the congregation.
Earlier on Saturday morning, the Akheri Munajat offered by the followers of Maulana Jubair Hassan was held on the Ijtema grounds.
The congregation had been held in two phases since 2011.
This year’s Ijtema was conducted in a single phase with the Tabligh Jamaat factions offering the concluding prayers separately.
Bishwa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of the Muslims after Hajj, has been organised at the venue since 1967.
