Shahjalal University of Science and Technology on Wednesday celebrated its 28th founding anniversary with festive mode that coincided with Pahela Falgun, the first day of spring season as par the Bengali calendar.
SUST vice-chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed and University Day Celebration Committee convener Professor Akhtarul Islam inaugurated the anniversary programmes at 9:00am hoisting the national and university flags in front of administrative building on the university campus.
They also paid tribute to country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through placing floral wreaths in front of his mural at Bangabandhu Chattar on the campus.
Later around 10:00am, a colourful procession was brought out in front of the administrative building that ended at Muktamancha after parading main roads on the campus.
A huge number of students, teachers, officials and employees participated in the procession to celebrate the founding anniversary of the university.
Addressing a rally after conclusion of the procession, SUST vice-chancellor greeted all for attending the programmes and urged to work together to enhance the quality of education and keep continued the progress of the university.
Professor Syed Shamsul Alam, newly elected SUST teachers’ association president Saiful Islam, proctor Zahir Uddin Ahmed and registrar Muhammad Ishfaqul Hossain, among others, addressed the rally.
Later, the university vice-chancellor along with his senior colleagues cut a cake at administrative building celebrating the 28th founding anniversary of the university.
RIM, a musical club of the students, also organised an open concert at Muktamancha on the campus in the afternoon.
SUST started its journey on February 13 in 1991 with 3 departments and 120 students. At present, around 11,000 students are studying at 28 disciplines under 6 faculties.
