Man killed in ‘gunfight’

A robbery suspect was killed in a ‘gunfight’ at Rahmatpur under Jashore Sadar early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Babar Ali, 40, son of Yusuf Morol of village Beta under Dumuria upazila in Khulna.
Apurba Hasan, officer-in-charge, Kotwali Police Station, said that on information of a ‘gunfight between two groups of robbers’ the police recovered the bullet-riddled body of a man and sent it to Jashore General Hospital. The attending doctor declared him dead.
The police claimed to have recovered a one shooter gun, one bullet and some sharp weapons.
Mayej Morol, uncle of the dead, identified the body at Jashore General Hospital at noon.
‘He had been missing since February 11,’ he said, adding that he was not involved in any mischievous activities.
But police claimed that the deceased was accused in about a dozen cases.
