Nabib Newaz Jiban scored a brace as defending champions Abahnai Limited came from a goal down to beat Arambagh Krira Sangha 2-1 and move to the top of the Bangladesh Premier League table in Mymensingh on Tuesday.
In the day’s other match at Dhaka, three-time champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club beat Brothers Union by a solitary goal at the Bangabandhu National stadium.
In Mymensingh, forward Arifur Rahman gave Arambagh the lead in the 14th minute. Jiban levelled the thing for the Sky-Blue outfit in the 32nd minute before scoring his second six minutes later to earn his team’s fifth win in the league.
With the brace, Ziban is now sharing the leading goalscorer’s chart in the league with Muktijoddha Sangshad’s Ivory Coast forward Ballo Famoussa with five goals.
After the win, Abahani moved to the top of the table with 15 points from six matches followed by big- spenders Bashundhara Kings, who have 12 points from four matches.
At the BNS, forward Shakhawat Hossain Rony scored the all-important goal for Sheikh Jamal in the very second minute of the match.
Rony placed the ball home from inside the box, connecting a cross from Argentine forward Luciano Emanuel Araya cross.
Jamal could have extended the margin in the 31st minute, but Brothers’ keeper Biplob Bhattacharya punched his header to safety.
