Noted and up-and-coming singers presented traditional songs at a programme at the Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday.
The programme was part of a monthly initiative by Bangladesh Sangeet Sangathan Samannay Parishad that features one of its member-organisations in each edition.
This month’s edition featured Bashoria, a musical troupe, whose members as well as several well-known soloists performed at the event. Bashoria dedicated the programme to the memory of KM Chand Miya, a Faridpur-based traditional singer and songwriter how died on May 14, 2014.
Among the soloists were Kiran Chandra Roy, Chandana Majumdar and Abu Bakar Siddique.
Kiran Chandra Ray entertained the audience with his rendition of Nishithe Jaiyo Phulo Boney while Chandana Majumdar rendered the timeless song of Chand Miya titled ‘Kothai Achhe Prano Bandhure.’
Abu Bakar Siddique, on the other hand, performed several songs including Pashan Khuni.
There was also a chorus presentation of Chand Miya’s song Ei Duniyar Rang Bazare by the artistes of Bashoria.
Earlier, the programme began with a discussion session in which Kiran Chandra Roy, Bashoria chief Sardar Rahmatullah, and BSSSP general secretary Bishwajit Roy talked about the life and work of KM Chand Miya.
A good number of people enjoyed the performances.
The monthly music show, aside from promoting the member-troupes of BSSSP, aims to encourage people to listen to music by purchasing tickets.
