District chamber presidents demand equal development

Presidents of district chambers on Tuesday demanded infrastructural development and industrialisation in district level for ensuring equal development of the country.
At a meeting of the council of chamber presidents organised by Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries, the business leaders also demanded continuation of fiscal and tax policies, increase in tax net by decreasing tax rate and special facilities to the women entrepreneurs.
FBCCI organised the meeting to take recommendations on government’s budget preparation.
Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Md Moniruzzaman emphasised on industrialisation in northern region of the country and demanded special incentive to the entrepreneurs who would establish industry there.
Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Md Rezaul Islam Milon said that approval from the district chambers should be mandatory for all businesspeople to start any business.
He demanded establishment of a special economic zone at Rangpur.
Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Kazi Aminul Haque urged the taxmen not to harass businesspeople and to include local chamber leaders in revenue collection process.
Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Monowara Hakim Ali demanded that the women entrepreneurs’ development fund should be operated under the supervision of FBCCI.
Rangamati Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Md Belayet Hossain Bhuiyan said that the government could increase its revenue from Rangamati through tapping the immense potential of tourism of the district.
FBCCI senior vice president and the president of the council of chambers’ presidents Sheikh Fazle Fahim presided over the meeting at the conference room of the apex trade body in the city.
FBCCI president Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, among others, also spoke at the programme.
In the meeting, presidents of the chamber bodies extended their support to Fazle Fahim in the next president election of FBCCI.
Fahim is the son of ruling Awamil League lawmaker Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and nephew of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
The biennial elections of the board of directors of FBCCI for the tenure of 2019-2021 will be held on April 27.
As per the rules, president would be elected from chamber group for this term.
Fahim is the president of Gopalganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
