A man in his twenties has killed his 32-year-old sister-in-law in Chattogram reportedly inspired by TV crime series.
The incident took place on February 8 and police arrested the accused, who tried to run away, after a day.
The accused is Farhad Hossain Limon, son of Abul Kashem Patwari of Paikpara area in Chandpur.
He killed his sister-in-law Hasina Begum, hid the body in a room and took away valuables from her house and went into hiding.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police additional commissioner (crime and operation) Amena Begum disclosed these at a press conference at Dampara Police Lines on Monday.
Victim Hasina Begum was the daughter of Khaled Mia of village Maizchora of Shafiganj in Noakhali.
She was a garment worker and had been living in Kalirhat of Akbar Shah area for long.
Earlier, Limon demanded money from his sister-in-law but he was refused. So, he got furious and killed sister-in-law. He took away all her jewelleries and placed the whole incident of murder to a theft incident, said the police officer.
Soon after the incident, Hasina’s brother Md Manik filed a case with the Akbar Shah police.
Police arrested Limon and placed him to a curt with a plea to question him for five days.
Akbar Shah police inspector Mohibur Rahman said that on the first day of interrogation, Limon confessed to the killing.
Limon used to watch crime petrol regularly which influenced him, said the officer.
As per Limon’s information on the first day of remand, police recovered the looted earring, chain, bangles and other jewellery from a sound box.
