At least 30 people including three policemen were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League in Aditmari of Lalmonirhat on Sunday centring nomination of the upcoming upazila elections.

Just after the AL central committee nominated the party’s Upazila unit general secretary Rafiqul Alam for contesting the UZ elections, the supporters of AL leader Imrul Kayes Faruk, who also sought nomination, gathered in front of the party office in the morning, said locals.

When Rafiqul’s supporters brought out a rally, Faruk’s supporters swooped on them triggering a clash between the factions.

A chase and counter chase took place between the groups, witnesses said.

On information, police rushed there and brought the situation under control by firing several rounds of rubber bullets.

Three policemen were also injured during the clash, said Masud Rana, officer-in-charge of Aditmari police station.
