A classical dance festival featuring group and individual performances was held at Chhayanaut auditorium in Dhanmondi on Friday.
Recitals based on major classical dance forms including Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Manipuri and Odissi were presented at the event titled ‘Chhayanaut Nritya Utsab’, which was dedicated to late eminent dancer-choreographer Bulbul Chowdhury.
The festival featured ten solo, seven group and one duet dance recitals by renowned and upcoming dancers from different dance troupes.
Chhayanaut artistes commenced the festival with a colourful Manipuri dance recital titled ‘Maibi Jagoi’.
Renowned dancers Warda Rihab and Sweety Das entertained the audience with eye-catching solo performances based on Manipuri dance.
Bharatnatyam dancer Amit Chowdhury presented Shiva Padam, a devotional dance meant to be a prayer to Shiva, the most prominent among Hindu Gods.
Among others, Mita Sengupta and Prantik Dev presented solo Bharatnatyam dance recitals, while artistes of Jago Art Centre and Sristi Cultural Centre presented group dance recitals.
Artistes of Rewaz Performers School presented a tarana synchronised with a raga at the programme. Fifa Chakma and Manirul Islam Happy’s solo Bharatnatyam recitals were eye-catching.
Besides, artistes of Nrityam presented an Odishi recital at the festival.
