A major change was brought about in the board of directors and management team of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, official sources in the bank said on Thursday.
The bank’s board of directors chairman Mustafa Anwar, its vice-chairman M Azizul Huq and managing director Mohammad Abdul Mannan resigned on Thursday, the sources said.
Former Bangladesh Commerce Bank chairman Arastoo Khan, also a former secretary, was made the new chairman of Islami Bank.
Arastoo resigned from the Commerce Bank recently and joined the meeting of Islami Bank board of directors at a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday for the first time and was elected chairman.
The meeting also made Union Bank managing director Md Abdul Hamid Miah the new managing director of Islami Bank.
The meeting also re-elected Saudi Arabia’s Al-Raji Bank representative Yusuf Abdullah Al Raji as the vice-chairman. Chittagong University professor Syed Ahsanul Alam was made vice-chairman replacing Azizul.
The meeting also made Paradise International Limited’s representative retired Major General Abdul Matin the new executive committee chairman while former Bangladesh Development Bank Limited managing director Md Zillur Rahman was made the new chairman of the audit committee of the board of directors.
Islami Bank risk management committee chairman Md Abdul Mabud retained the position.
The bank came into being in 1983.
