An activist of United People’s Democratic Front, a Chittagong Hill Tracts-based political group, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Langadu upazila’s Bhuiyachara in Rangamati on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Pabitra Chakma, 38, a collector of UPDF and son of Shanti Priyo Chakma.
Ranjan Kumar Shamanto, officer-in-charge of Lanadu police, said that the assailants swooped on Pabitra and opened fire on him at about 2:30pm while he was resting at a friend’s house.
He died on the spot.
A team of police and army were going to Langadu to retrieve the body, the OC said.
The motive behind the killing could not be known immediately.
