Indian Border Security Force on Monday shot at yet another Bangladeshi on Bangladesh-India frontier at a place between Dharmagarah and Jagdal camps under Ranishankail in Thakurgaon while relatives claimed that the youth was killed by BSF firing.
The victim was Sohel Rana Babu, 14, son of Ekramul Huq of village Maradhar under Haripur in the district.
This was the third victim of BSF shooting on Bangladeshis along the Thakurgaon border in past 11 days.
Dharmagarah union Parishad chairman Shafiqul Islam Mukul, quoting villagers and the victim’s relatives, said Babu along with his maternal uncle went to India illegally a few days ago to attend a family invitation.
On Monday, about 5:00pm, the duo was returning to Bangladesh crossing the border at a place between Dharmagarah and Jagdal camps when BSF members of Kukradah camp under Uttar Dinajpur opened fire on them.
He said that the victim’s relatives feared that he was killed in BSF firing.
Thakurgaon 50 BGB commander Lieutenant Colonel Tuhin Mohammad Masud said they were informed about the incident but was not sure whether the boy was killed.
‘We have sent a letter to BSF and a flag meeting is expected to be held between BGB and BSF. We will be able to say in detail only after the flag meeting,’ he said.
In 2018, a total of 14 Bangladeshis were killed by BSF at Bangladesh-India border, according to independent human rights organisation, Ain O Salish Kendra data.
