At least nine people were killed and 22 others were injured in separate road accidents across the country on Tuesday.
In Bagerhat, four people were killed and 20 were others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on the Khulna-Mawa Highway in Fakirhat upazila.
The deceased were identified as the truck driver Kamruzzaman, 32, resident of Satkhira district, Mahamudul Hasan, 15, a schoolboy from Khulna, and Bipin Poddar, 51, resident of Mollahat upazila. The identity of the fourth victim could not be known yet.
Sub-inspector of Katakhali Highway police outpost Moloy Roy said that the accident took place at about 12 noon when a Dhaka-bound bus of Tungipara Express collided head-on with a truck, killing three people on the spot and injuring 21 others.
Of the injured, five were taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital. One of them succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Traffic on the busy road remained suspended for about two and a half hours after the incident.
In Dinajpur, a severely injured three-wheeler driver Hafizur Rahman, 45, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital after a sand-laden truck hit him in Haluaghat area in Nababganj upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Nababganj police station Subrata Kumar Sarkar said that the accident took place at about 7:00am.
In Nilphamari, a truck crushed a three-wheeler killing a man in front of Samsul Haque Auto Rice Mills on Nilphamari-Ramganj Road at about 11:00am.
The police identified the deceased as Zamiar Rahman, resident of Balarpukur area of Jaldhaka upazila.
In Habiganj, a severely injured young man died as a motorcycle turned turtle while he was learning to ride in Bahubal upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Sabbir Ahmed, 18, resident of village Goaroa of Sabbir upazila, said officer-in-charge of Bahubal police station Md Masuk Ali.
In Sirajganj, a trader died after a truck hit him while he was crossing road in Koddarmore area in Sadar upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge police outpost Syed Shahid Alam said that a truck crushed Munnaf Sarkar, leaving him severely injured.
Later, he was taken to a hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
In Jaipurhat, a fisherman died and two others were injured as a human hauler over turned near the Amdoi-Chaumkhoni Bazar in Sadar upazila while they were returning after catching fish from a water body.
The deceased was identified as Asit, 37, resident of village Majhipara in Sadar upazila.
He died on the spot, said officerincharge of Sadar police station Sirajul Islam.
