Nearly 60 clubs of different tiers joined hands on Tuesday to unveil a new platform for football which was expected to work as a pressure group ahead of Bangladesh Football Federation election, scheduled next year.
Bangladesh District and Divisional Football Association general secretary Tarafder Ruhul Amin was elected as the president of the newly-launched platform Bangladesh Football Club Association during a colourful programme at a city hotel.
The association claimed that out of 83 clubs of Bangladesh Premier League, Bangladesh Championship League and first, second and third division leagues, the representatives of at least 57 clubs were present during its launching programme.
Among the clubs, however, representatives of only six top-tier premier league clubs – Chattogram Abahani, Saif Sporting, Arambag KS, Muktijoddha SKC, Team BJMC and NoFeL SC – were present on the occasion.
The club officials took a swipe at the BFF president Kazi Salahuddin saying that he failed as a football administrator.
Terming the year 2018 as the dark chapter of Bangladesh football, Ruhul Amin, the president of the new platform, said that they have no conflict individually, but are against their [BFF Ex committee] process.
The motto of the club association is to discuss problems and find out solutions for the development of country’s football, he described.
Amin said that the association is willing to extend hand to the country’s football governing body to create a pipeline of talented footballers.
If the BFF executive committee does not agree with them and fails to meet their demands, they will boycott the BFF and will run the entire leagues in future by their own funding, he warned.
‘We want to support the BFF. There will be conflict, if they do discriminatory behavior, we will boycott them and run the leagues by our own funding, ‘said Amin.
Arambagh Krira Sangha president Mominul Haque Saeed was named as general secretary of the association.
Speaking at the programme, BFF vice president Badal Roy termed BFF president Salahuddin as ‘ungrateful’ and a ‘traitor.’
‘He is ungrateful and a traitor, when he will be pulled down [from the post], the football of the country will see a better day.’
Former BFF president SA Sultan, veteran politician and a sports organiser Mozaffar Hossain Paltu and NoFel SC secretary Shakhawat Hossain Bhuiyan Shahin spoke among others on the occasion.
Saif Power-Tec is declared as sponsor organisation for the association.
