The Dhaka University on Thursday appointed International Business department professor SM Mahfuzur Rahman as the chief returning officer for the long-awaited elections to Dhaka University Central Students’ Union which remained dysfunctional for almost three decades.
The university vice-chancellor M Akhtaruzzaman appointed Mahfuz under the 8 (e) section of the existing DUCSU charter and also formed a 15-member advisory council as the university for holding the elections, said a press release.
The members of the advisory council are — supernumerary professor of history department Kazi Shahidullah, president of Dhaka University Teachers Association ASM Maksud Kamal, general secretary Shibli Rubiatul Islam, dean of the faculty of science Mohammad Abdul Aziz, dean of faculty of engineering and technology Hasanuzzaman, chairman of the economics department Shafiq Uz Zaman, Population Science department professor AKM Noor-un-Nabi, geography and environment science department professor AQM Mahbub, marketing department professor Belayet Hossain, chemistry department professor Tofail Ahmed Chowdhury, director of Institute of Business Administration Syed Farhad Anwar, chairman of Bangla department Bismadeb Chowdhury, Professor of Social Welfare and Research Institute ASM Atiqur Rahman, supernumerary professor of mathematics department Sajeda Banu and Nutrition and Food Science Institute professor Sharmin Rumi Alim.
Meanwhile, the university authority also held a meeting with all Teacher Student Center based socio-cultural organisation of the university on Thursday morning at Abdul Matin Chowdhury Digital Classroom to exchange view about the DUCSU polls.
