The Jahangirnagar University Day was observed through various programs on the campus on Saturday, marking the 49th founding anniversary of the university.
The university wore a festive look on the occasion as several hundred former and current students of different departments, teachers, employees, and officials joined the daylong programme with colourful banners, balloons, and festoons.
JU vice-chancellor Professor Farzana Islam inaugurated the programme by hoisting the national flag and JU flag and releasing balloons in front of the business studies faculty at 10:30am.
JU pro-VC (administration) Professor Amir Hussain and treasurer Professor Sheikh Monjurul Huq were present at the inaugural session, while JU acting registrar Rahima Kaniz conducted the programme.
The daylong programme included a puppet show, drama, and cultural function organised by the university’s Student Welfare and Counselling Centre at the Selim Al Deen Muktamancha.
The day’s premium attraction was prominent folk singer lawmaker Momotaz Begum’s live performance.
The university was founded on August 20 in 1970, and formally began its academic activities as a residential university on January 12 in 1971, with four departments, 21 teachers, 150 students, and three dormitories.
