Former Australia skipper Steve Smith’s Bangladesh Premier League stint is all but over due to an elbow injury confirmed a Cricket Australia spokesperson on Saturday.
Smith, currently serving a 12-month ban from international cricket for a ball-tampering scandal, was captaining the Comilla Victorians in his debut BPL season.
Smith took part in the first two matches for his team but flew back home on Thursday to scan his injured elbow after not being able to practice for two days.
Smith will go under the knives on Tuesday to repair a ligament in his right elbow and will be in a brace for six weeks followed by rehab which rules him out for the rest of the tournament.
Imrul Kayes led Comilla in Smith’s absence against Rajshahi Kings.
Comilla’s next match is against Chittagong Vikings on Sunday, which would be the last match of the first leg in Dhaka.
