Chittagong Vikings’ South African recruit Robbie Frylinck on Saturday expressed his delight on heavily contributing for his side’s success in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League after providing another match-winning performance against Khulna Titans in Mirpur.
Frylinck, who was a surprise addition in this year’s BPL, has already made headlines after providing outstanding performances for Chittagong in their first two matches.
The 34-year old, who has represented South Africa three times in Twenty20 internationals, has been a regular face in franchise-based Twenty20 tournaments across the world, playing in tournaments like Indian Premier League, Caribbean Premier League and NatWest Twenty20 Blasts.
However, in his inaugural season in BPL, he is taking the tournament by storm with his all-round abilities and has already proven himself as a consistent performer with 79 runs and eight wickets in three matches.
‘Touch wood, hopefully it kept going nicely,’ Frylinck told reporters after providing a sensational performance against Khulna where he won it for his side in the Super Over.
‘But I will keep saying it’s not me and how I am doing. I am happy team got two wins in three matches. We almost made it three out of three but I am just happy to contribute.
‘At the moment it’s going well for me and so I will take the luck and next game it might be someone else,’ he added.
Frylinck’s 4-14 in the first game against reigning champions Rangpur Riders helped Chittagong get off the mark in the tournament but in the second game, his late blitz of 44 off 24 balls after taking 3-26 with the ball could not inspire his side as they fell five-run short to Sylhet Sixers.
However on Saturday, he turned the tide once again in Chittagong’s favour as he won them a match in a Super Over, something BPL had never witnessed before and he also hadn’t experienced before.
Although he (23 off 13) had himself to blame for taking the match in Super Over after failing to score a single in the last ball despite doing the hard work by smashing two successive sixes in the previous two deliveries.
But he used all his experience in the Super Over and defended only 11 runs which earned him his second man-of-the-match award in three matches.
Frylinck after the match claimed that it was practice that prepared him to win it for Chittagong and was happy to contribute for his team.
‘It was my first super over and I thought 11 runs were decent. I backed myself to defend it,’ he said.
‘Obviously I missed a little bit with Malan [Dawid] when he hit a four but you just needed to stay calm and when you batting or bowling and remained relaxed and stick with the plan.
‘Batting at seven and bowling in the late, I was in situation for many times... you just needed to be calm and obviously with a lot of practice. You practice the skill you got and if you practice good, you will back yourself to these situations,’ he added.
