‘Drug addict’ friend hacks man to death

A young man was hacked to death allegedly by his friend in Rohanpur municipality area of Gomastapur upazila of Chapainawabganj on Friday afternoon apparently for not accepting his proposal to get involved in drug peddling.
The deceased was identified as Rajon Biswas, 22, a resident of the area.
Local people said that drug addict Ashique, 20, also a resident of the area, had become involved in the Yaba trade recently and had tried make his friend Rajon join.
Rajon refused to join following which the the young men developed an enmity.
In a sequel to the enmity, Ashique swooped on Rajon at Nimtala near Rohanpur Railway Station at about 2:00pm and hacked him with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.
Rajon was taken to the upazila health complex where doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The victim died on the way to the hospital at about 4:00pm.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination, said in-charge Mahtab Uddin of Rohanpur police investigation centre. The police arrested Ashique soon after the incident, he said.
