Road Transport and Bridges minister and Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday rejected the Oikya Front’s demand for fresh polls.
The minister said the democratic world has recognised the December 30 polls, so there is no scope for holding a national dialogue on the polls.
‘It is ridiculous to raise question about the 11th parliamentary election which got global recognition,’ he said.
Obaidul Quader made these comments while talking to journalists during a visit to the flyover on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Chandra in Kaliakoir to see work in progress.
He also urged the Oikya Front to come to the parliament to talk about their demands. Among others executive engineer of Gazipur roads and hiways Mohammad Saif Uddin and other high officials accompanied the minister.
The minister also said, ‘We decided to demolish all illegal structures along the national highways and this drive will cover the entire country after giving seven days notice.’
‘I have given direction to the authorities to notify all by today in this regard. I have also asked the police and highway police not to allow illegal parking. If we can succeed in remove illegal establishments, stop illegal parking, only then will the discipline on the highway return,’ he added.
