Playwright, director and child group organiser Rahim Abdur Rahim received the Mahakabi Kalidas International Award in India on Tuesday.
The National Performing Arts Association of India and the Takshyashila of Assam jointly handed out the award in All India Multi-Lingual Drama, Dance and Award Giving Festival 2019 at Goreswar College at Baksa in Assam.
Abdur Rahim, also founder of Panchagarh Bidrohi Shishu-Kishore Theater, got the award this year for spreading non-sectarian, humanist and communal spirit through dramas and plays.
The award was handed over by Giriraj Jamini at the programme, which was inaugurated by Biswajit Daimary, MP of Assam.
He is now a lecturer in Bangla department at Galehahat Fazil Madrasa at Kamat-Kajaldighi union in Panchagarh. Rahim, also the New Age correspondent in Panchagarh, is a prolific writer and columnist. He regularly writes for different newspapers and journals.
Abdur Rahim penned at least 20 plays and directed more than 50 dramas and performances on environment, education, Independence War and freedom fighters.
