The Dhaka Special Court 3 on Thursday issued a warrant for the production of jailed Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia befoe the court in the Gatco graft case.
Judge of the court Abu Sayed Dilder Hossain deferred till January 16 the hearing in the framing of charges, rejecting a defence petition for time, said Khaleda’s lawyer Taherul Islam Tauhid.
The court cited a High Court directive issued on November 25, 2018 for completing the trial in six months.
Anti-Corruption Commission prosecutor Mosharaf Hossain Kajol opposed the time petition and sough the warrant for the production of Khaleda before the court.
On September 2, 2007, the commission filed the case accusing Khaleda, her youngest son Arafat Rahman, Jamaat-e-Islami amir Motiur Rahman Nizami and 10 others of causing a loss of Tk 145.64 crore to the national exchequer by awarding the contract of container handling at the Chittagong port and the Dhaka’s Inland Container Depot to Canadian company Gatco.
