Police arrested two people, including a former union-level Awami League leader, at village Shreepur of Harinakunda upazila in Jhenaidah on early Saturday in connection with torturing a teenaged boy over theft allegation.
The arrested are former Shreepur union Awami League general secretary Shahinur Rahman Tuhin, in his fifties, and Kazi Babul, in his forties.
On information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the suspects at about 1:30am, said Tarek Al Mehedi, additional superintendent of Jhenaidah police.
Earlier, Omar Ali, father of Md Rana, 16, filed a case with the Harinakunda police station against four people on Friday night.
On December 27 a television went missing from Shreepur Awami League office. Next day, Tuhin brought Rana into the office and tortured him by hanging him from a jackfruit tree on charge of stealing the television.
Later, they handed Rana over to police.
Video footage of the torture went viral on social media on Friday.
