A Sirajganj court on Wednesday sent former Bangladesh Nationalist Party lawmaker M Akbar Ali to jail rejecting his bail plea in a number of cases.
The district chief judicial magistrate, Shahadat Hossain Pramanik, issued the order after Akbar, also a member of main opposition BNP’s central executive committee, surrendered before his court.
Akbar’s lawyer Rafiq Sarkar and court police inspector M Mostofa Kamal both said that a total of 13 cases had been filed against him.
They said that the court granted his bail in seven cases and rejects the bail pale in the rest six cases.
Akbar, also BNP’s Ullapara upazila unit president, was elected lawmaker from Sirajganj 4 constituency in 1991 and 2001.
