Language movement hero Bimol Roy Chowdhury passed away at Jashore General Hospital on Saturday morning.
He was 94. He had been suffering from old-age complicacies.
The family said that he had been undergoing treatment for the last few days.
Bimol Roy Chowdhury took part in several people oriented movements, including the language movement.
He was cremated at Nilganj crematory in the evening.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of Bimol Roy Chowdhury, former president of Jashore district unit of Awami League, according to a report of the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
In a condolence message, the PM recalled Chowdhury’s outstanding contributions to the politics of Bangladesh.
She said that Chowdhury was a great politician who restlessly worked for the welfare of people until his death.
The prime minister prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
