The authorities of Islamic University in Kushita on Wednesday suspended deputy registrar of the university Manjar AL Alam Miru for assaulting Islamic history and culture department professor Emtaz Hossain.
Witnesses said three people, led by Miru, went to the room of the teacher at teachers’ quarter and assaulted him, leaving him injured.
Other residential teachers took Emtaz to IU central hospital for treatment.
IU vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari told New Age that they suspended the official for such criminal activities.
They also asked police to take action against the official, he added.
Manjar told New Age that he went to the professor for approval of Kushtia Zia Parishad Committee.
At one stage they got into a tussle as the professor declined to approve the committee, he claimed.
Professor Emtaz said that he could not understand the motive behind the attack on him.
A case was filed against Miru with IU Police station, IU police officer-in-charge Ratun Sheikh said.
The incident might have happened over previous enmity, the OC added.
