Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad is likely flying to Singapore for treatment on Monday night, said the party’s presidium member Md Khaled Akhter.

Ershad’s round trip ticket for Singapore Airlines flight sq 447 has been confirmed and he is likely to depart Dhaka at 10:45pm, he said.

A special envoy to prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Ershad, will be accompanied by presidium member Ziauddin Ahmed and Ershad’s assistant private secretary M Monjurul Islam.

During Ershad’s absence newly appointed special assistant to the party chairman and also a presidium member ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader would lead the party, said an organisational order signed by Ershad on Saturday.

On December 6, Ershad in front of his office at Banani said he was not allowed to go abroad though he badly needed treatment.

Ershad’s younger brother and also party co-chairman GM Quader, however, said that there was no embargo on Ershad’s going abroad from the government. ‘He will go when his health would allow,’ Quader told New Age on December 6.
