Awami League president Sheikh Hasina will formally launch the party’s election campaign at Tungipara in Gopalganj on tomorrow.
Jahangir Kabir Nanok, joint general secretary of the party, disclosed this information at a news briefing at the party president’s office at Dhanmondi in Dhaka on Monday.
He said, ‘PM will go to Tungipara on Wednesday morning (Dec 12) by road. She will start formal election campaign after paying tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.’
Hasina would also address a rally at her own constituency while another rally at Kotalipara in the afternoon in the district, the AL leader said adding that Sheikh Hasina would also visit different parts of the country as part of her electioneering.
Nanak complained that ‘BNP-Jamaat alliance’ was trying to foil the next general election knowing their defeat.
Nanak said that BNP leaders were involved in the ‘nomination trades’ in the name of giving party nominations to their party members.
He called on the Election Commission to take steps against opposition BNP for their ‘nomination trades.’
Referring to the agitation programmes of BNP activists in front of party’s central office and chairperson’s Gulshan office, Nanak said the protests could thwart free, fair and credible parliamentary elections.
Awami League joint general secretary Abdur Rahman, organising secretary Ahmmad Hossain, information and research secretary Afzal Husain, central leaders Sujit Roy Nandi and Biplab Barua were present at the briefing.
