A youth was stabbed to death in Sylhet on Thursday following a quarrel between two groups of people over arranging a religious sermon.
The deceased was identified as Sakib Khan, 32, son of late Babul Khan of village Puran Kalaruka at sadar upazila in the district and a supporter of Quawmi group, police said.
Local residents said that there was a long standing feud between the followers of two Islamist groups — Quawmi and Fultali Mawlana — in the Kalaruka village and people of the both groups locked in an altercation at the noon while a discussion was going on to arrange the annual religious sermon in the village.
At one stage of exchanging heated words, Fultali group supporter Osman Khan stabbed Sakib and he died on his way to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, they said.
Jalalabad police officer-in-charge Harunur Rashid confirmed the incident and said that the victim’s
body was sent to the SOMCH for postmortem examination.
