Bangladesh Under-23 team suffered an embarrassing 97-run loss against their UAE counterparts in their opening match of the Emerging Teams Cup in Karachi on Thursday.
Chasing a target of 268, Bangladesh U-23 team were bowled out for 170 despite a late fight back by Shafiul Islam and Shoriful Islam
Shafiul and Shoriful put 54-run for the ninth wicket to lift the side from 99-7 but could not finish the things off.
Left-arm spinner Ahmed Raza dismissed Shafiul for 32 runs to break the partnership before he bowled last man Khaled Ahmed to end the contest.
Shoriful, who hit three sixes and a four, remained unbeaten on 31 after facing 31 balls.
Raza and his spin partner Imran Haider picked four-wicket each to script the memorable win for UAE side.
Earlier, Bangladesh made a decent start into the game with opener Mizanur Rahman making highest 43 runs for the side.
But a spectacular middle-order collapse which saw Bangladesh losing four wickets for two runs at one stage took the emerging Tigers into the back foot.
The unexpected batting collapse also spoiled a bowling heroic of Shoriful, who claimed 4-55 to help Bangladesh restrict UAE to a gettable total.
Opener Ashfaq Ahmed made 98 off 93 and while skipper Rohan Musatfa made 40 off 70 balls in their 110-run stand, which gave UAE a solid platform.
One-down Ghulam Shabber also added 52 off 57 balls but Bangladesh bowlers made a fightback to keep the score within the reach before batsmen let the team down.
Bangladesh will face Hong Kong in their next match on Friday.
