The body of a schoolboy, who was reportedly abducted on Sunday, was recovered from a neighbour’s house at village Ramchandrapur in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia on Monday evening.
The deceased was identified as Ashik Uddin, 14, a Class-VII student of Dharampur High School and son of Kutub Uddin, a resident of the village.
Victim’s father Kutub Uddin said his neighbour Mishuk, son of Samor Ali, invited Ashik over to his house at about 11:30am on Sunday where Ashik stayed till noon.
The boy later disappeared and Kutub Uddin received a phone call for ransom of Tk 50,000 at about 4:48pm.
Kutub Uddin went to Mishuk’s house but did not find his son there.
Mishuk’s younger brother Asif told Kutub that Mishuk had gone to his father-in-law’s house.
When the victim’s father inquired about the phone number he had received the ransom call from,
Asif confirmed the number belonged to Mishuk.
The victim’s father then contacted the police.
The police conducted a search operation at Mishuk’s house and recovered the body from a wooden box on Monday evening, said superintendent of Kushtia police SM Tanvir Arafat.
The police also detained two people to be primarily quizzed in this connection, he added.
