At least seven people were killed in separate road accidents in Kushtia, Natore and Chattogram on Sunday morning.
In Natore, two people were killed and 30 others including 20 students injured following a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Natore-Pabna Highway in Gunai Hati area of Boraigram upazila.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The accident took place at around 9:45am when the bus carrying a group of students of Bonpara Degree College and Bonpara Mahila Degree College collided with the cement-laden truck, leaving truck driver and an unidentified bus passenger dead on the spot, said Abdul Halim, officer-in-charge of Bonpara police.
In Chattogram, Primary Education Completion examinee Esha Akhter, 12, and female garment worker Meherun Akhter, 26, were killed in separate road accidents in Patia upazila and Bandar area of Chattogram in the morning.
Sub-inspector Alauddin Talukder of Chittagong Medical College and Hospital outpost said that the accident took place when a bus hit Esha Akhter, daughter of Dedarul Islam of Bininihara area, while she was waiting for a vehicle in front Chilashah Market in Patia upazila at around 9:00am for going to her exam centre, leaving her critically injured.
Meherun Akhter was killed as a bus hit her in Majhirpara area at around 7:15am while she was going to her workplace, said Jahirul Haque, in-charge of the CMCH Police Outpost.
In Kushtia, three people were killed and 25 others injured in separate road accidents in Khoksa and Mirpur upazila in the morning.
ABM Mehedi Masud, officer-in-charge of Khoksa police, said two bus passengers Mahatab Uddin, 50, and Abdul Kader, 65, were killed and 25 others injured as the bus plunged into a roadside ditch on Kushtia-Rajbari Highway in Mirzapur area after its driver lost his control over the steering.
Motorcyclist Masud Hossain, 50, son of Mosharraf Hossain of Purba Majampur area in Kushtia, was killed as a bus hit his vehicle in Bottoil area of Mirpur upazila at around 9:00am.
