NBR’s collection from tax fair tops Tk 1,500cr in 5 days

National Board of Revenue attracted huge crowed in the income tax fair venues on Saturday as taxpayers rushed to the venues during the weekend to pay taxes and file tax returns.
NBR received Tk 1,558 crore in income tax from 3.43 lakh taxpayers in five days of the weeklong fair that began on Tuesday.
Number of returns and tax collection increased by 62 per cent and 5.76 per cent in five days against the same period of last year.
In five days of last year’s fair, NBR received Tk 1,473 crore from 2.12 taxpayers.
The number of visitors also reached to 11.49 lakh, up by 49 per cent from 7.71 lakh in previous year, in five days at venues including the central one at Officer’s Club in Dhaka.
Taxpayers all over the day rushed to the fair venues at eight divisional cities, 52 district cities and 13 upazillas to file their returns, pay taxes and receive other tax related services.
The fair venues took a festive look as huge taxpayer crowded government and most of the private offices and business entities were closed on the day.
On the fifth day alone, NBR got Tk 290.53 crore in income tax from 81,599 taxpayers while 2.49 lakh people received tax-related services.
On the third day of last year’s fair, 48,064 taxpayers paid Tk 272 crore in income tax with tax returns and another 1.80 lakh people received services.
There are 43 booths for returns submission, 31 help desks, 21 booths of Sonali, Janata and BASIC banks, three booths for e-payment, two for e-filing, 10 booths for e-TIN and three booths for senior citizens, freedom fighters and physically challenged people and a special corner for female taxpayers at the central venue.
NBR has also arranged shuttle bus services with 15 buses from Uttara, Mirpur, Motijheel, Rampura and TSC in the Dhaka city. 
The fair venues will remain open from 9:00am to 5:00pm till 19 November.
On Saturday, NBR member (tax administration and human resource management) Zia Uddin Mahmood inaugurated audio-visual tax education programme at Officers’ Club.
NBR made four docudramas on returns filing to help people to file their own returns with the help of these video tutorials.
The docudramas will be uploaded to the NBR youtube channel.
