Record Tk 218.43cr collected on first day of tax fair

National Board of Revenue on Tuesday received a record Tk 218.43 crore in income tax from 46,401 taxpayers at the different income tax fair venues across the country.
A record 1.14 lakh people received services related to income tax payment from taxmen at the fair venues, including the central one at Officers’ Club in Dhaka, on Tuesday, the opening day of the weeklong nationwide event.
Tax collection increased by 5 per cent or Tk 10.43 crore on the first day compared with that of Tk 208 crore on the opening day of last year’s fair.
On the first day of the last year’s fair, 31,041 taxpayers submitted income tax returns while 79,112 people received services from tax officials.
This year, the number of tax returns and service receivers increased by 49.48 per cent and 43.72 per cent respectively.
The weeklong fair began on the day in eight divisional cities in Dhaka, Chattogram, Barishal, Khulna, Rangpur, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Mymensingh, four-day fair at four district headquarters and two-day fair at seven upazilas.
There will be a four-day fair at 56 districts, two-day fair at 32 upazilas and one-day mobile income tax fair at 70 upazilas to be held any day/days between November 13 and November 19.
Taxpayers and potential taxpayers thronged the fair venues, particularly in Dhaka, on the day and found waiting in long queues in front of different booths for getting services including filing tax returns.
The fair will remain open from 9:00am to 5:00pm every day. NBR has also arranged shuttle bus services with 15 buses from Uttara, Mirpur, Motijheel, Rampura and TSC in the Dhaka city.
