Manikganj district unit of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi celebrated its 50th founding anniversary with a three-day festival held on the Shahid Memorial premises in Manikganj.
The progamme ended on Saturday night with the rendition of different genres of songs by the artistes of Udichi.
Besides Udichi artistes, up and coming local singers rendered songs, while Bunan Theatre staged Balika O Swarna Pasham Ekti Bherar Natya, written by Ananna Jaman and directed by Suddhaman Chaitan, at the venue on the concluding day.
SM Ferdous, deputy commissioner of Manikganj, formally inaugurated the three-day festival by hoisting the national flag on Thursday morning and former presidents and general secretaries of Udichi hoisted the organisation’s flag.
Among others, chairman of Manikganj district council Golam Mohiuddin, mayor of Manikganj municipality Gazi Kamrul Huda Selim, general secretary of central unit of Udichi Jamsed Anwar Tapan and general secretary of Manikganj Udichi Mustafijur Rahman Mamun were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Following the inauguration, artistes of Udichi brought out a colourful procession. A large number of people, many of who donned traditional attires, participated in the procession that passed through the streets of the Manikganj town.
Udichi Manikganj honoured its former presidents and general secretaries for their contributions.
Artistes of Halim Chowdhuri Sangeet Bidya Niketon rendered songs and Bunan Theatre staged a play, titled ‘Secret of History’, written by Ananna Jaman and directed by Suddhaman Chaitan, on the opening day.
The festival was open to visitors from afternoon and till midnight.
